WARNING:5 Constipation Foods
Seniors Must AVOID

PLUS: A 4-Second Habit to Soften Stool & Deflate Bloated Bellies

Dr. Chad Walding, DPT

If you've ever been constipated, you know the discomfort that tough bowel movements & stuck stool can cause.

And while you might think you’re making the right choices for your digestive system, there are 5 surprising foods that may oh-so-sneakily be the root cause of your intestinal backup.

Essentially, constipation is just a slowing down of how fast food passes through your digestive tract, and there are various reasons this could be the case…

It’s true, your metabolism slows down naturally with age, but when all that movement comes to a screeching HALT… it can mean bloating, cramping, hours spent on the toilet, and sometimes even missing out on favorite activities or family gatherings.

Furthermore, while “poop problems” may be an embarrassing thing to talk about – untreated constipation can result in much more serious health problems and should NOT be ignored.

If You Find Yourself Stopped Up & Straining – You Are Not Alone…

According to the American Gastroenterological Association, constipation affects approximately 16% of adults overall and 33% of adults over age 60.* It is one of the most frequent gastrointestinal complaints in the United States, with at least 3.2 million people* visiting their doctor each year due to constipation & complications.

The medical definition of constipation is when a person has less than 3 bowel movements per week, consisting of hard, dry stools that are difficult to pass.* Frequent straining on the toilet is a symptom as well. A person experiencing constipation will often complain of “abdominal discomfort, bloating, and a feeling of fullness or incomplete evacuation of the bowel.”

While age affects your muscle contraction strength throughout your digestive system – your diet is also a main contributing factor to how easy & smooth things move along…

That’s why we consulted with Dr. Chad Walding, DPT & Senior Nutrition Expert, to put together a list of 5 surprising foods that cause constipation for seniors:

1.)

Brown Rice

Understanding your tolerance and gut health is crucial when choosing grains that support digestion, as not all grains are created equal in terms of purity and nutrition.

Brown rice, in particular, can be a major culprit in causing stress to the digestive system and negatively impacting gut health in many seniors.

In fact, studies find that the hull of brown rice can be very disturbing to the gut since it contains lectins…

This is because lectins can potentially cause nutrient deficiencies and inflammation in the body, disrupting the digestive system, particularly in individuals with sensitive gut microbiomes.

Additionally, a Consumer Reports study found that brown rice contained 80% more inorganic arsenic on average than white rice.*

2.)

Cauliflower

Yes, back away from this white cruciferous veggie when things in your gut are not on the move.

Cruciferous vegetables contain something called “raffinose,” a type of carbohydrate that occurs naturally in some plants. Oddly enough, the human body isn't equipped with the proper enzyme to help break raffinose down, which means it travels from the small intestine to the large intestine undigested…

Essentially, once this undigested part of cauliflower enters the large intestine, the bacteria there will begin to ferment it. In turn, this can cause bloating and gas.

Most people can handle cruciferous vegetables in moderate doses. However, those with GI issues, including irritable bowel syndrome & chronic constipation, may experience even more digestive distress.

Other cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, asparagus, bok choy, brussels sprouts, and cabbage.

3.)

Grains & Gluten

Some people are sensitive to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley.

A person who finds their digestion sluggish or have repeated instances of constipation might consider that gluten products are the cause.

Processed grains, especially (such as white bread, cereals, crackers, and white pasta) are lower in fiber and may be even more constipating than whole grains.

Eliminating gluten from the diet could be a big step towards restoring regular bowel movements.

4.)

Chocolate

Many people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are already aware that chocolate is on the list of foods that cause constipation.

But when it comes to “chocolate,” it’s not the cocoa that’s to blame.

Constipation is likely the result of other ingredients in the chocolate. For example, chocolate bars and cakes contain milk, which some people find constipating.

Chocolate also contains additional caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration… and a lack of water in your intestines makes stools dry and harder to pass.

Additionally, chocolate-filled foods are typically high in sugar, which is tough on your bowels. Sugar often replaces healthier, high fiber foods in your diet that keep your bowels moving regularly.

While it can be difficult to avoid delicious snacks like chocolate, finding more natural “treats” such as berries or cocoa-dusted almonds is a step in the right direction for your digestive health.

5.)

Bananas

Unripe bananas are particularly hard to digest.

In fact, their low fiber content is one of the reasons they're recommended when you're getting over an upset stomach… but they are NOT great for constipation.

Unripe bananas also contain 100-250 mg tannins (plant-based compounds which affect the gut mucosa and prevent relaxation of the digestive tract muscles) and have high amylase-resistant starch (starch that is resistant to digestion in the small intestine) levels.*

Now, as bananas ripen, the quantities of tannins and amylase-resistant starch decrease, while soluble sugars accumulate. Ripe bananas contain 3 grams of fiber, mostly in the form of soluble fiber.

While well-ripened bananas are okay in moderation, higher-fiber fruits such as oranges, pears, or blackberries might be the better choice for a fruity snack.

BOTTOM LINE: To improve your digestive health, avoid high-sugar foods, processed foods, gluten, and specific fruits & vegetables.

What You Can Do to Naturally Soften Stool, Deflate Bloated Belly, and Help Move Things Along…

Dr. Chad Walding here...

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Nutrition Specialist, I’ve been working hands-on with seniors for over a decade to bring harmony back to their biology.

One of the EASIEST ways to make fast, noticeable changes, is to give your digestion system a little extra support—especially as your body ages.

As you mature in age, it can be discouraging to notice how fast your body “breaks down”...

This breakdown is most noticeable in your joints and bones, which seem to become painful and more brittle with each passing year…

But what most people often overlook, is the wear and tear that happens to our gut lining as we age.

To make matters worse, in today’s modern times we are constantly bombarded with toxins and stressors in our environment that damage our intestines and cause bad bacteria to outgrow our beneficial super strains.

Gone unchecked… The digestive system can LOSE its ability to function.

Unable to properly digest and absorb nutrients from our diet, your intestinal tract and bowels become clogged.

In fact, many seniors are shocked to learn that they’re carrying pounds of trapped undigested wastes in their gut every day—causing even more bad bacteria to grow.

Fortunately, Researchers at King's College in London Have Discovered a Simple Morning Habit That Speeds Up “Gut Transit Time” by 12.4 HOURS...

In fact, over a dozen clinical trials have proven that when people with constipation add this 4-second habit* to their daily routine…

Not only is "gut transit time" (how long it takes for the food to move from your mouth to the end of the intestine) improved…

  • The number of weekly bowel movements increases by 1.3
  • Stools are softened, making them easier to pass
  • Anxiety, depression, autism, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and memory are improved
  • Blood pressure is reduced
  • Energy levels skyrocket
  • AND this simple habit even leads to significant weight loss (especially for women)

Here’s the deal: a well-functioning digestive system requires a careful balance of bacteria in your gut in order to digest your food more efficiently, improve bowel function and release trapped waste.

Supplying your gut with the right types of bacteria is also helpful in offsetting the negative effects of our modern Western lifestyle. These factors, such as taking antibiotics, certain medications, a poor diet, and stress all affect our gut health tremendously—and create a highly toxic internal environment.

When you take this one simple step to balance your personal & unique bacteria balance, you can combat these sometimes unavoidable aspects of modern living and promote fast, long-lasting healing.

This is the key point to remember…

When you clear trapped toxins, you optimize your digestion and immune function…

And when you optimize your digestive processes, you also increase your energy.

With freed up energy, your metabolism will operate more efficiently… unwanted weight will fall off, stress levels neutralize, even your mood will improve!

BOTTOM LINE: A well-functioning digestive system requires a careful balance of bacteria in your gut.

#1 Simple Morning Habit For Women 50+ To Implement Immediately

While it is possible to find some friendly bacteria strains in fermented foods like pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi, and vinegar…

You’d have to eat a large quantity of these acidic, often high-sodium foods daily in order to receive any recognizable benefits.

Furthermore, they only provide a very limited variety of bacteria strains.

That’s why this simple 4-second habit is ESSENTIAL to supplement a wide variety of friendly bacteria throughout your gut, helping them to multiply quickly and naturally…

And take control, fighting and keeping away harmful microorganisms.

You can do this by adding a select set of active cultures called probiotics into your diet.

Now, while you may have heard the term “probiotics” thrown around before…

Here Are 3 Things You Should Look for When Choosing a Probiotics Supplement

  1. Look for probiotics that contains at least 2 billion CFU per capsule. 1 billion is the minimum amount of CFUs that must reach the intestines in order to provide benefits. But for best results something in the 2-2.5 billion CFU per capsule will give the best results.
  2. Check the ingredients to make sure the probiotics are free from major allergens such as gluten, dairy, soy or nuts. These can all be problematic and cause negative reactions in the body.
  3. Choose probiotics that have a diversity of well researched strains. At least 6 is a good. Also know that different strains have different benefits. So pick the ones that are best for you. For instance L. acidophilus has been shown to reduce diarrhea and boost the immune system. L. rhamnosus improves skin health, particularly eczema. B. lactis is highly beneficial for improving both the immune system and digestion.

Which is why at NativePath, I’ve worked with our premier sourcing team to develop a daily probiotics formula that covers every base…

And that is the NativePath Probiotics digestive health formula.

With 2.75 billion CFUs per capsule, allowing plenty to arrive live & active, ready to work in your gut.

Free of gut-aggravating substances & fillers such as gluten, soy, dairy, & nuts.

It also contains natural sources of prebiotics from psyllium husk and larch fiber to keep friendly bacteria levels nourished while keeping bad bacteria in check.

Each serving contains 10 targeted probiotic strains (including the three mentioned above) which can help maintain your healthy gut microbiome and discourage the damaging effects of a modern lifestyle on your metabolism and immune function.

The powerful combination of super-strains in our custom blend of Probiotics has been proven effective in many different ways:

A large study of 362 people found that taking a Bifidobacteria probiotic for four weeks significantly improved symptoms of IBS

One study found that taking a Bifidobacteria probiotic for 45 days

reduced body mass index (BMI) and blood cholesterol in people with metabolic syndrome

A smaller study of 44 people with IBS and mild-to-moderate depression investigated the effects of taking a Bifidobacteria probiotic. Those who took the probiotic had

significantly lower depression scores than those who took the placebo

Another study of 135 people with significant amounts of belly fat found those who took Bifidobacterium strains daily for 3 months lost significantly more belly fat and had reduced BMI and waist circumference. It was also noted that these results were especially pronounced in women.

One of the main functions of this type of bacteria in humans is to

digest fiber and other complex carbs your body can’t digest on its own

--since fiber has been shown to help reduce weight gain and the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic disorders--Bifidobacteria helps reduce the risk of these diseases by digesting fiber

Numerous studies have also proven the surprising fat-burning power of strains in the Lactobacillus family:

These help your body absorb less dietary fat from the foods you eat, allowing you to more easily shrink stubborn fat cells and waist circumference.

  • In one study, eating yogurt with Lactobacillus fermentum or Lactobacillus amylovorus reduced body fat by 3–4% over a 6-week period*.
  • Another study of 125 overweight dieters investigated the effects of Lactobacillus supplements on weight loss and weight maintenance*. The results showed that supplementing with this probiotic strain helped women achieve sustainable weight loss.
  • During a 3-month study period, women taking the Lactobacillus probiotics lost 50% more weight compared to the group taking a dummy pill (placebo). They also continued to lose weight during the weight maintenance phase of the study.
  • One study followed 210 people with a lot of belly fat. It found that taking Lactobacillus for 12 weeks reduced body weight, fat around organs, BMI, waist size, and hip circumference.
  • What's more, Lactobacillus supplementation resulted in an 8.5% reduction in belly fat in that same study*.

Not only do these helpful bacteria support weight loss… They’re also shown to help block fat storage altogether.

In one 4-week study, taking a probiotic formulation reduced weight gain and fat gain on a diet where people were overfed by 1000 calories per day.

This indicates that certain Lactobacillus probiotic strains are not only effective at helping you lose pounds of unwanted body fat…

But they’re also proven to help prevent weight gain, even if you’re overeating!

These specific strains are also proven to:

  • Reduce heavy metals--research done by the Canadian Journal of Microbiology indicates these strains of bacteria bind to and detoxify heavy metals like lead, mercury, and arsenic, which can accumulate in dangerous amounts in your body.
  • Break down pesticides--research demonstrates that Lactobacillus plantarum and other strains in this family can break down pesticides commonly found in our daily environment and on certain crops including broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and soy.

And the team at NativePath and I have put in over 10 years of research to provide you with an all-in-one solution containing these most powerful varieties of probiotics…

Plus other natural ingredients for maximum results and absorption.

As I speak with more and more clients suffering from numerous symptoms and at a loss for where to turn…

I implore you, don’t let your gut lining dissolve away… allowing harmful particles to find their way throughout your body and cause body-wide inflammation.

Instead, nourish your digestive system with the friendly bacteria needed to keep your metabolism, immunity, and overall well-being heightened.

At NativePath, we’ve made it easier than ever to get the essential strains of health-boosting microbes you need for robust health.

With one capsule taken first thing in the morning, it just takes a few seconds to build a healthier gut, a stronger immune system, and a more naturally balanced life.

There’s Just One Caveat… In Order For The Probiotics To Do Their Job, You’ve Got To Feed Them.

That’s where Psyllium and Larch fiber come into play.

Psyllium is sometimes considered a naturally gentle laxative, but it works in a very specific way to avoid unexpected accidents and irregular bowel movements…

It soaks up extra water in your gut and makes bowel movements much smoother, helping promote regularity without increased gas and bloating.

When taken along with a healthy amount of water, psyllium has the ability to soften your stool, which can come in handy with short-term ailments, such as constipation.

Larch fiber is a unique type that does not actually get broken down, but ferments in your gut to slow the absorption of carbohydrates into your bloodstream which helps stabilize blood sugar and regulate your appetite.

Together, these two ingredients serve as a food source for your good bacteria.

When your friendly microbes get the right amount of psyllium and larch fiber, they then turn around and produce something called butyrate, which is essential for a well-performing colon.

Butyrate is also both an anti-inflammatory and acts as a protective shield for your intestine lining against disease and cancer-promoting agents.

Thereby helping to reduce, and in some cases even prevent leaky gut symptoms.

A Thriving Array Of Bacteria Will Help You Far Beyond Digestion…

A healthy supply of good bacteria can have far-reaching health effects for you, such as strengthening your immune system and helping to control inflammation.

By keeping your friendly bacteria flourishing, you’ll notice changes not only in your gut but throughout your body—both inside and out!
